A major cause of water pooling are downspouts and leaking gutters that have not been correctly installed or are clogged. Downspouts should also be designed to drain water away from the foundation (10 feet is ideal) thus diverting the water away from the home.
Another cause of water pooling is an uneven or insufficient grade. An uneven grade could be evened out to fix the problem.
Many homeowners who live at the base of a hill or incline have a problem with pooling water. To help with this problem, the homeowner could dig small ditches, also known as swales which divert water away from the building. These should be around 10 to 15 feet away from the home in order for water runoff to not reach the homes foundation.
Although there are many options for treating water damage these days, the best option is to try and prevent it in the first place. If you are concerned that your home has a problem with pooling water, please feel free to contact us, we would be happy to schedule an inspection.
